BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University volleyball team earned a 3-0 victory over Vermont State University Lyndon in its North Atlantic Conference home-opener on Saturday afternoon at Newman Gymnasium.
The Hornets (0-10, 0-2 NAC) were able to hold their own with the Eagles (2-10, 2-1 NAC) during the first set as they trailed just 18-14. Husson was able to rattle off the final seven points of the set to earn a 1-0 set advantage thanks in part to freshman Molly Gamache pouring in four service aces.
The Eagles jumped on Lyndon early in the second set as they started off on a 7-2 scoring run and ended up cruising to a 25-11 set two victory.
The third set was more of the same for Husson as they opened up a 12-3 advantage to begin set three and closed out the match with a 25-14 set win.
Graduate student Cheyenne Young and freshman Maddie Sheppard led the Eagles with a co-game-high seven kills apiece for the match.
Young and junior Alyvia McIntyre both tallied double-digit assists as they tallied 13 and 16 respectively.
Graduate student Nicole Hobbs led the Husson defensive effort as she scooped up a game-high seven digs.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow as they face another Vermont foe as Vermont State University Johnson makes the trip to Newman Gymnasium. First-serve for this NAC contest is set for 1 p.m.
