BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team cruised to an 11-0 victory over Vermont State University Lyndon on Saturday afternoon in its North Atlantic Conference home-opener.
The Hornets (0-6, 0-3 NAC) were able to keep the Eagles (6-3, 2-0 NAC) out of the net for the opening 14 minutes but Husson opened the floodgates starting in the 15th minute when junior Natalie Aviolla recorded her fifth goal of the season off of an assist from sophomore Addi Laslie.
Fellow sophomore Devon St. Louis continued the scoring just over two minutes later as the Eagles gained a 2-0 lead.
Husson would add one more to the scoreboard before the halftime intermission as sophomore Molly Finn tallied her first collegiate goal as the Eagles carried a 3-0 lead at the end of 45 minutes.
Senior Edie Shea started the second-half onslaught for Husson as she put her first goal of the season away in the 50th minute of action on a pass from junior Kate Harriman.
Following Shea's tally, three Eagles recorded their first collegiate goals as freshman Rylee Speed found the back of the net in the 56th minute thanks to fellow freshman Taylor Isom's first collegiate assist. Junior Caitlin Haley posted her first collegiate goal in the 63rd minute play off of fellow junior Katie Benson's first collegiate assist. Sophomore Madison Higgins concluded the run of first collegiate goals as she put one in during the 66th minute of play thanks to junior Sami Orest's first collegiate assist to give Husson a 7-0 lead.
Shea would record an unassisted tally in the 68th minute, followed by a goal from Harriman that earned freshman Ella Hosford her first collegiate assist in the 82nd minute.
Speed would conclude the scoring in the 84th minute to help the Eagles earn the 11-0 conference win.
Junior Hannah Kenney played the full 90 minutes in net for Husson and earned her first shutout of the season while facing no shots during the contest.
The Eagles pounded the Hornets goal with shots as they tallied 53 for the game, including 32 shots on goal.
Husson has a quick turnaround as they will return to non-conference action tomorrow as it hosts Tufts University. Kick-off for this Sunday matinee is set for noon.
