BANGOR, Maine – Sophomore Devon St. Louis played hero scoring in the 84th minute as the Husson University women's soccer team rescued a 2-2 draw with Tufts University on Sunday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Despite the Jumbos (4-2-2) having 66% possession in the first half; it was the Eagles (6-3) who found the breakthrough. After a goal line clearance from sophomore Caley Nault; the Eagles attacked via the counter attack. Graduate student Charlotte Messer delivered a through ball over the Tufts' center backs and sophomore Addi Laslie was on the receiving end as she took a touch before calmly sliding the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
In the second half, the Jumbos continued to control the game as they were able to hold a 2-1 lead until the 84th minute. The Eagles had a rare opportunity to get set up in the offensive zone and it paid off. Ball rattled around the Jumbo's box before coming out to St. Louis as she chipped the keeper from 20-yards out to tie the game.
The Eagles defense faced 33 total shots with sophomore goalkeeper Madison Weigler stopped a collegiate-high 12 shots. The defensive line held their own forcing Tufts to be offsides ten times. Offensively, the Eagles were clinical in front of goal as both their total shots were goals.
The women's soccer team continue their homestand on Wednesday when No. 24 ranked University of New England come to town for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
