BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team faced their second straight opponent who is receiving votes in the top 25 Division III soccer polls on Wednesday evening as the Eagles dropped a 3-1 contest to the Nor'easters of the University of New England.
UNE (5-2-3) controlled 54% of the possession in the first half as they tallied two goals in a 13 minute span as they held a halftime lead over the Eagles (6-4-1).
The Nor'easters scored their third goal of the contest in the opening five minutes of the second half as the Eagles had a large mountain to climb. Junior Natalie Aviolla gave the host some hope as she ripped a stinger into the top of the net from 30-yards out for her sixth goal of the season. Down 3-1, the Eagles and Nor'easters exchanged chances for the final third of the game, but neither team could convert en route to the school from Biddeford winning, 3-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Weigler made two saves in the losing effort.
Women's soccer returns to North Atlantic Conference action this weekend when they take on two New York schools at Boucher Field. SUNY Morrisville comes into town on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. while SUNY Poly visit the next day at 12:00 p.m.
