PORTLAND, Maine - The Husson University field hockey team dropped a back-and-forth 3-2 non-conference decision to University of Southern Maine on the road Thursday evening.
Southern Maine (6-2) took a 1-0 lead with just under four minutes remaining in the first quarter and carried its advantage into the halftime break, Husson (1-2) was limited to just three shots in the first half. The fourth quarter saw both teams score, first with the Huskies scoring an early quarter goal to regain the lead at 2-1, however,
Tessa Capozzoli scored her first collegiate goal with give minutes remaining on a penalty to force overtime.
Husson started the overtime period strong, firing two shots early, but it was the Huskies who broke the tie five minutes into the period and came away with the 3-2 decision
Husson returns to action on Saturday Sept. 23 when it travels to play the University of Maine at Farmington to kick off its North Atlantic Conference schedule.
