DELHI, N.Y. – The Husson University women's volleyball competed in a doubleheader at SUNY Delhi on Saturday afternoon in their first two matches of the season. The Eagles dropped the first match in straight sets versus SUNY Delhi before falling to Wells College in five sets.
Game 1: SUNY Delhi 3, Husson 0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-6)
In the first match of the day; the Eagles (0-2) battled with the NAC championship runner-ups from last season, SUNY Delhi (1-1), in the first two sets, before falling 25-20 and 25-21. In the third set, the Broncos sailed to the set and match victory, 25-6.
Graduate student Cheyanne Young and freshman Alana Peruti led the Eagles' attack with three kills each while junior Alyvia McIntyre recorded nine assists. Junior Beatrice Tursi led the defense with nine digs.
Game 2: Wells 3, Husson 2 (25-17, 12-25, 12-25, 25-17, 15-11)
Wells (2-0) won the first set before the Eagles took control of the match by winning sets two and three by 13 points. In the fourth set, the Express found their grove from the first set; forcing the winner-take-all fifth set. in the fifth set, the Eagles won the first set before the New York school rallied with three straight as they led for the majority of the set. The Eagles was able to tie the set at ten, but the Express won five of the last six points for the victory.
The Eagles held a positive hitting percentage in all five sets as they recorded 42 digs and 46 digs to the Express' 35 and 36, respectfully. Young led all players with 13 kills and ten digs while freshman Janna Preskorn had the second-most kills with 12. McIntyre dished out 31 assists and three aces while Tursi had ten digs and two assists.
The team will return to the court on Tuesday for their home opener when Bates College comes to town for a 5:30 p.m. non-conference matchup.
