BOSTON – The Husson University women's soccer team recorded an opening day 1-0 victory over Emmanuel College on Friday evening thanks to a goal by sophomore Addi Laslie in the 64th minute.
It was a very even first half at Clemente Field as the Saints (0-1) outshot the Eagles (1-0) by a total of five shots to three as the best chance for a breakthrough came in the 26th minute by the host. Ciara Horan dropped a perfectly weighted through ball by the Eagles' defense that allowed Sarah Dullaghan through on goal. Dullaghan fired a shot from 15 yards out, but sophomore goalkeeper Madison Weigler was there for her best save of the night.
The second half saw the host pushing for the breakthrough, but it was the Eagles who was able to do just that. Playing out from the back; junior Mackenzie Lambert played a through ball over the Saints' defense that allowed Laslie through on goal. The sophomore made no mistake as she slotted her shot into the side netting for the game's lone goal.
Weigler and the Eagles' back line shut the door down en route to the victory as Weigler made four saves.
The women's soccer gets to recover tomorrow before their home opener of Sunday as Marian University visits Boucher Field from Wisconsin. The game is set to kickoff at noon.
