BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University baseball team began participation in the 2023 North Atlantic Conference tournament with a 8-6 comeback victory over Thomas College on Sunday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Diamond.
The Terriers (18-16) opened the scoring with a run in each of the first two innings as they held the lead until the third inning when junior Jackson Curtis drove a three-run homer over the left field wall to give Husson (20-16) a 3-2 lead.
The Terriers tallied four runs in the next four innings as they led, 6-3, into the bottom of the seventh.
That is when the comeback bid was on as the Eagles scored two runs on five hits. Sophomore Tanner Evans singled to center in which freshman Keegan Cyr scored followed by an RBI-double from graduate student Ethan Stoddard to make it a one run game through seven.
Sophomore Matt Wallingford earned the start on the mound as he went six-plus inning. The right-hander allowed four earned runs and struck out five. Junior Zain Fitzsimmons and senior Brandon Brunell kept the Eagles in the contest with a combined 1.1 innings pitched, before junior Ryan Robb recorded the save on the mound.
The Eagles will take on SUNY Cobleskill with a spot in the NAC championship series on the line. First pitch is set for tomorrow at noon time.
