BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University baseball team recorded a non-conference victory over the Bowdoin Polar Bears in their final tune-up game before the North Atlantic Conference as the Eagles won 6-2 at the Harold Alfond Diamond on Tuesday night.
It was the freshman that got the Eagles on the board first in the second inning as
Hunter Curtis and
David York each recorded a RBI as the Eagles took a 2-0 lead. The Polar Bears were able to tie the game in the next inning, before the Eagles tallied three more runs in the third. A grounder by junior
Akira Warren brought home sophomore
Tanner Evans, then a miscue allowed junior
Jackson Curtis to score. H. Curtis capped off the inning with a double down the left field line to make it a 5-2 ballgame in favor of the host. In the fifth, York singled to score graduate student
Ethan Stoddard in which proved to be the final run of the ballgame for the 6-2 victory.
Junior
Chris Naylor started the contest going two strong innings before giving way to the bullpen. Senior
Alex Smith earned the win on the mound by pitching the third inning as freshman
Ben Phillips pitched the next four as he struck out five. Juniors
Zain Fitzsimmons and
Ryan Robb combined to pitch a perfect final two innings.
It's the NAC tournament next on the docket for the baseball team as they will host the whole tournament beginning on Sunday. The Eagles will square off with the Terriers of Thomas College in game two of the tournament as first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
