MEDFORD, Mass. — The Husson University softball team dropped a 9-3 decision to No. 6 Tufts University in its opening game of the NCAA Regional hosted by Tufts on Thursday.
Tufts (38-4) managed to take a 1-0 advantage with a run in the first inning of Thursday's regional showdown before adding another run in the second inning and striking for four runs in the third inning to jump out to a 6-0 lead.
The Jumbos benefited from a homerun in the fourth inning to take a 7-0 advantage before Husson (30-13-1) got on the board with two runs in the fifth inning.
Sophomore
Tatyanna Biamby single to right center to plate the first run, while senior
Katie Raymond connected on an RBI single to pull within 7-2 of Tufts.
The Eagles added another run in the sixth inning on a solo homerun by junior
Julia Gregoire, but Tufts added two runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend its advantage to 9-3.
Offensively, Raymond finished 2-3 at the plate while Smith went the distance in the circle striking out four over six innings.
The Eagles return to action on Friday when they battle Cabrini University in Game 4 of the NCAA Regional with first pitch scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
