Hudson, N.H. — The Husson University softball team put together a complete team effort on Saturday to remain unbeaten in North Atlantic Conference play, sweeping Northern Vermont University-Lyndon 12-1 and 9-1 on the road.
Husson (14-10, 4-0 NAC) wasted little time getting out to a 4-0 advantage in the first inning of game one scoring its opening run off an RBI single by sophomore
Tori Exel. Junior
Kenzie Dore drove in the Eagles second run, while freshman
Jordan Lambert plated Exel on an RBI single before scoring on an RBI double by freshman
Emily Dunbar.
The Eagles tallied four more runs in the third inning scoring on an RBI by senior
McKenna Smith and two runs on a triple from freshman
Morgan Curtis. Curtis would steal home for the Eagles eighth run.
Curtis plated another run in the fourth inning on a double before Lyndon (4-13, 0-4 NAC) scored their lone run of the day in the bottom of the fourth to get on the board.
However, Lambert drove in two runs in the top of the fifth for her second and third RBI's of the contest to run the Eagles lead to 12-1.
Lambert finished 2-4 at the plate with three RBI's while Dunbar who got the start behind the plate finished 2-3 and Curtis also finished 2-3 with three RBI's
Smith got the start in the circle for the Eagles tossing three no-hit innings while striking out six batters.
Freshman
Emily Rerick throw the final two innings for Husson allowing one hit and striking out one.
The Eagles outhit the Hornets 12-1 on the game while recording four extra-base hits and swiping seven bases.
In the second game of the day, the Eagles got on the board again in the first inning taking an early 1-0 lead following an RBI single from senior
Julia Gregoire.
Freshman
Danielle Masterson put the Eagles up 2-0 in the second inning with an RBI, while fellow freshman
Lydia Rice drove in Husson's third run in the third inning.
Lyndon managed to get on the board in the bottom half of the third, pulling within 3-1 of Husson, but senior
Jill Bisson drove in two runs on an RBI single to increase the Eagles advantage to 5-1, before Gregoire broke the game wide open in the seventh, homering to left field to give the Eagles a 7-1 edge.
Senior
Katie Raymond drove in two more runs following Gregoire's homerun to help Husson earn the 9-1 win.
Raymond finished 3-4 at the dish with two RBI's, while Gregoire tallied a 2-4 day with three RBI's. Additionally, freshman
Morgan Tainter and senior
Teagan Blackie and Bisson all recorded two hits apiece as Husson finished the afternoon with 25 hits, while limiting Lyndon to just four hits.
Masterson got the start in game two tossing four one hit innings allowing just one run and striking out seven. Smith threw the final two innings for the Eagles to earn the save allowing two hits and recording three strikeouts.
Husson returns to action on Thursday when it welcomes Plymouth State University to O'Keefe Field with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m.
