WATERVILLE, Maine – For the second consecutive week; the Husson University baseball team split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with this time coming at Allen Field on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles won game one, 4-2, before falling game two, 15-7. With the split, the Eagles are now 15-16 and 10-2 in the NAC while Thomas is 16-15 and 11-3, respectfully.
Game One: Husson 4, Thomas 2
The Terriers opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning as that was all the scoring until the final frame.
Senior Alex Smith kept the Eagles in the contest with a quality five-plus innings pitched as he allowed seven hits, and struck out five. Freshman Ben Phillips retired the only batter he faced in the sixth.
In the seventh, the Eagles' offense exploded for four runs on four hits capped off by a three run home run by senior Ethan Stoddard.
Junior Ryan Robb pitched a perfect bottom half of the inning to close out the victory for the Eagles.
Game Two: Thomas 15, Husson 7
The Eagles trailed, 2-1, heading into the fourth as that quickly changed when freshman Hunter Curtis hit a solo shot. A bases-loaded walk later in the inning would give Husson the lead as they would add two more runs in the fifth, With a 5-2 lead, the Terriers outscored the Eagles 13-2 en route to the doubleheader split. Sophomore Ty Knowlton was responsible for the two runs with a home run of his own.
Junior Zain Fitzsimmons started the contest going through innings before the bullpen pitched the remaining four innings. Senior Chris Naylor, Phillips, junior Jackson Thayer, senior Austin Tomalonis, and freshman Mason Cycenas-Heimer all made an appearance ffor the bullpen.
The regular season for the baseball team concludes this weekend when they travel to UMaine-Farmington for a doubleheader on Saturday and Sunday. Game one for both days is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
