BANGOR, Maine — Senior
Katie Raymond connected on a two-RBI walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning to help Husson University softball sweep Bowdoin College by finals of 4-1 and 9-8 for its 18-straight win.
Husson (24-10) took an early 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second in Sunday's game one, scoring on an RBI single from Senior
McKenna Smith.
The Eagles added another run in the third inning on Raymond's RBI single, before plating two runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 edge.
Senior
Teagan Blackie single up the middle for the first Eagles run, while Smith recorded her second RBI of the game on a groundout.
Bowdoin (18-16) managed to get on the board in the top of the seventh inning, loading the bases and scoring on an RBI ground, but Smith who got the start for the Eagles in game one slammed the door shut to earn the 4-1 win.
Smith continued her impressive season tossing seven innings, allowing only three hits and striking out eight Polar Bears.
Offensively, Blackie and sophomore
Kiara McLeod led the charge with two hits apiece while Smith tallied two RBI's.
Sunday's game two would prove to be a game for the ages featuring three lead changes and 17 runs before both squads.
Similar to game one of Sunday's non-conference clash, Husson took a lead following the second inning, this time tallying two runs in the frame, scoring on an RBI groundout from McLeod and another run on an RBI double from Freshman
Morgan Tainter.
The Polar Bears got a run back in the third inning before tying the game in the fourth. However, the tie was short lived because Tainter drove in her second run of the game in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single and Raymond later plated Tainter on an RBI single to give the Eagles a 4-2 lead.
Bowdoin pulled within 4-3 of the Eagles in the fifth inning, but Husson benefited from a Polar Bear's miscue in the bottom of the frame to score two runs and extend its lead to 6-3.
But Bowdoin connected on a four-run inning in the top of the sixth to take a 7-6 edge.
That lead was short live because junior
Kenzie Dore single to left field to tie the game 7-7 in the bottom of the inning.
The Eagles and Polar Bears played a scoreless seventh inning, forcing extra innings with Bowdoin taking an 8-7 lead on a sacrifice fly out, but Raymond connected on her 100th-career hit in the bottom of the inning that scored Blackie and senior
Jill Bisson to give the Eagles a hard-fought 9-8 walk-off victory.
Both Raymond and McCabe registered three-hit efforts for the Eagles, while Tainter and Dore each recorded two-hit performances.
Freshman
Emily Rerick got the start of the Eagles in game two, pitching four innings, allowing six hits and striking out two, while fellow freshman
Danielle Masterson tossed 1.2 innings before Smith entered in a 7-6 deficit to pitch the final 2.1 innings allowing only one hit and striking out two.
Husson now turns its attention to Colby College on the road Wednesday in another non-conference showdown with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
