BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University softball team earned a pair of North Atlantic Conference 5-0 wins over Thomas College on Saturday.
Husson (22-10, 9-0 NAC) and Thomas (11-10, 4-2 NAC) played through a scoreless tie until the bottom of the fifth inning in the opening game of Saturday's senior day doubleheader.
Senior
Katie Raymond gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead on and RBI knock that proved to be the deciding run. Junior
Olivia McCarty earned a based loaded walk for an RBI to push the lead to 2-0 and junior
Kenzie Dore ripped a two RBI single to left center that gave Husson a 4-0 advantage.
Raymond tallied her second RBI of the game in the sixth inning to give the Eagles another insurance run and push the game to 5-0.
That would be all the run support senior
McKenna Smith would need as she tossed seven shutout innings allowing just five hits and struck out 16 batters.
Raymound finished 2-4 at the plate for the Eagles with two RBI's, while Dore added two hits and two RBI's followed by Smith helping her cause with a 2-3 afternoon.
In the final game Saturday's doubleheader, the Eagles and Terriers played scoreless through the opening four frames before freshman
Emily Dunbar struck for the game-winning RBI on a single to left center.
Raymound drove in senior
Jill Bisson on an RBI ground for a 2-0 Eagles edge, while Dore connected on a two RBI double for her third and fourth RBI's of the day to give Husson a 4-0 advantage.
The Eagles added a fifth run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI by sophomore
Bulla McCabe, while freshman
Danielle Masterson dazzled in the circle for Husson.
Masterson finished the afternoon with a complete game shut, allowing five hits and matching a career-high with 10 strikeouts to help the Eagles win their 16th-straight game.
The Eagles will host Bowdoin College on Sunday for a noon doubleheader before traveling to Colby College on Wednesday.
