BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University baseball team swept a doubleheader from the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls on Saturday afternoon at the Harold Alfond Diamond. After winning game one, 11-0, in seven innings; the Eagles came from behind to win game two, 4-3, in 11 innings. With the pair of wins, the Eagles are now 12-15 and 7-1 in the NAC while the Owls fall to 2-25 and 1-7, respectfully.
Game One: Husson 11, UMPI 0 - 7 Innings
The first inning began the scoring with three runs including a RBI from graduate student
Kobe Rogerson and freshman
Hunter Curtis. The lead continued to grow through the next two innings as graduate student
Ethan Stoddard drove in a run in the second followed by freshman
David York doing so in the third. The fourth inning saw the Eagles drive in five runs with two coming from Rogerson on a base hit up the middle. The scoring concluded in the sixth inning when pinch hit freshman
Keegan Cyr singled to bring home
Hunter Curtis for the 11th and final run.
The offense set up senior
Alex Smith as he pitched five quality innings with four strikeouts. Junior
Ben Taneman and freshman
Allen Wheaton each pitched a perfect inning to close out the shutout.
Game Two: Husson 4, UMPI 3 - 11 Innings
The Owls managed to score three unearned runs to begin the game as the Owls held the Eagles off the scoreboard until the fifth inning. A ground out by sophomore
Ty Knowlton scored
Hunter Curtis to cut the lead down to 3-1. In the eighth inning, the host tied the ballgame when sophomore
Tanner Evans ripped a base hit to center field as junior
Akira Warren and Cyr scored. After a scoreless tenth inning; the Eagles won the game in the 11th. With Rogerson on second, York dropped a base hit into left field, and Rogerson would score on the play.
Sophomore
Ryne Rametta got the start going three-plus innings as he allowed four hits and struck out three. Freshman
Sully Beers and junior
Zain Fitzsimmons combined for 6.1 innings of work and six strikeouts. Junior
Ryan Robb shut down the Owls in his 1.1 innings pitched to earn his third victory of the season.
The two teams will complete their four game weekend set tomorrow with another North Atlantic Conference doubleheader starting at noon. The baseball team will honor their six seniors prior to the first contest of the day.
