BANGOR, Maine - Husson University cruised past Northern Vermont University-Lyndon, 17-1, in a North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse contest at Boucher Field on Sunday afternoon.
Husson (7-4, 3-1 NAC) netted their first goal of the game 40 seconds into the opening quarter as sophomore
Jordyn Lengle scored her first career goal before recording her first career assist at the 8:19 mark when senior
Sophia Gomez found the back of the Northern Vermont-Lyndon's (0-7, 0-2 NAC) net to left the host to an early lead.
The Eagles continued the scoring onslaught and held an 8-0 cushion after the first quarter. Gomez and Lengle, and sophomore
Maddy Benoit hit pay dirt in the second stanza to the Eagles with a 11-1 cushion heading into halftime.
Sophomore Isabel Bourgeois with an assist from freshman Libby Webb put the Hornets on the board at the 6:17 mark of the second quarter.
Husson netted six goals in the second half of the game to count for the 17-1 victory.
The Eagles held the lead in shots (40-4), shots on goal (27-4), ground balls (30-15), draw controls (16-6), and caused turnovers (19-6) in the victory.
Husson sophomore goalkeeper
Emma Begin picked up the win after making three save while Northern Vermont-Lyndon senior Rachel Palladino posted ten saves and five ground balls in a losing effort.
Gomez tallied four goals, four ground balls, a caused turnover and six draw controls in the victory for the Eagles. Freshman
Averi Baker scored three goals with two assists, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman
Madison Lower netted three goals with a ground ball and a pair of caused turnovers. Benoit tacked on two goals and an assist with three ground balls and caused turnovers, and a draw control. Lengle chipped in with two goals and two assists with a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Sophomore
Natalie Whitten posted a goal and a pair assists to break the single-season assist record with her 29th assist. Breaking a program record set back in 2010 by Husson Sports Hall of Fame member Shelby Bradford. She also finished the game with a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Senior
Devyn Veits scored a goal with seven ground balls, seven draw controls, and five caused turnover. Freshman
Laela Martinez record a goal while classmate
Emma Doiron had an assist in the victory.
Bourgeois scored a goal with a ground ball for the Hornets. Webb had an assist with a ground ball. Freshman Maachah Krull picked up four ground balls while freshman Kiara Mack added four draw controls and a pair of ground balls.
Husson will travel to Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday April 22nd in a NAC matchup set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
