CASTINE, Maine - Husson University defeated Maine Maritime Academy, 19-14, in a key North Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse matchup on Saturday afternoon at Ritchie Field.
Senior Beth Labbe put Maine Maritime (8-4, 3-2 NAC) on the board in the first minute of play, followed by a goal from sophomore Hazel Stoddard to make the score 2-0. Husson (8-4, 4-1) answered with four straight goals from senior

Averi Baker, before the two teams each scored two more goals to make the score 6-4 in the first quarter.
Husson outscored the Mariners in the second quarter, taking 10-7 lead going into the half after sophomore
Emma Romatzick scored a women-up goal with two seconds remaining in the second stanza.
The Mariners came out of the half strong, cutting the lead to one when freshman Rebecca Caron hit pay dirt at the 10:12 mark of the third before Martinez and Baker gave Husson a two-goal lead going into the fourth quarter.
Husson held onto their lead in the final stanza by outscoring the Mariners, 6-3, to take the 19-14 win.
The Eagles held a 41-35 advantage in shots and a 17-9 edge in ground balls over the Mariners.
Sophomore
Emily Godfrey tallied 15 saves for the Eagles to earn her sixth win on the season. Freshman Ella Bowes tallied nine saves in 30 minutes in net, while freshman Kelsey Melton had five saves in the second half for the Mariners.
Baker tallied four goals, three assists, two ground balls and two caused turnovers to lead the Eagles on the afternoon. Martinez finished with four goals, an assist, two ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls. Senior

Stoddard tallied four goals and three assists, along with 15 draw controls, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers for the Mariners. Caron added three goals, four draw controls, and one ground ball. Senior Lily Cook, sophomore Kirra Magaña, and Labbe each scored two goals, while senior Olivia Harriman tallied a goal in the setback.
The Eagles return to action in New York against SUNY Poly on Sunday, April 30th at 12:00 p.m. in their regular season finale.
