BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University softball team put together to impressive performances against the University of Maine at Farmington at home Saturday winning both games by 8-0 finals to remain unbeaten in North Atlantic Conference action.
Following both wins on Saturday Husson (18-10, 6-0 NAC) has now won 12-straight games backed by strong pitching and timely hitting which was on full display Saturday against Farmington (1-17, 0-3 NAC).
The Eagles scored a run in the first inning off an RBI single by junior
Kenzie Dore and added to their lead in the second inning following a Farmington miscue.
Dore added to her RBI total in the third inning, crushing an opposite field three-run home run to put Husson up 5-0. Following Dore's blast, senior
Katie Raymond doubled to left field scoring senior
McKenna Smith to give Husson a 6-0 edge.
The Eagles tallied another run in the fifth inning following an RBI groundout from freshman
Lydia Rice and walked the game off in the bottom of the sixth inning on a passed ball to secure the 8-0 victory.
Smith got the start for the Eagles in game one pitching six innings allowing just one hit and striking out 10 batters. With Smith's 10 strikeouts, the senior became just the third player in program history to eclipse the 400-career strikeout plateau joining
Jen Jones and Amanda Pomerleau.
Dore finished 3-4 at the plate for the Eagles while senior
Teagan Blackie tallied a 2-3 performance at the dish.
Game two would be all Eagles as well as freshman
Danielle Masterson got the start in the circle tossing five no-hit innings before Farmington tallied just their second hit of the day in the sixth inning.
After Masterson retired the Beavers in order to begin the second game, Husson struck for three runs in the bottom of the first scoring its first two runs on a two RBI double by junior
Julia Gregoire and adding another run on an RBI single by sophomore
Tori Exel. The Eagles began the opening frame with four-consecutive hits on just four pitches.
Following two scoreless frames, the Eagles offense tallied three more runs in the fourth inning scoring on an RBI single by junior
Olivia McCarty and two more runs on Gregoire's second two RBI double of the game, giving her four RBI's on the afternoon.
Sophomore
Tatyanna Biamby who entered as a defensive substitution in the top of the fifth drove in the Eagles seventh run of the afternoon on a single down the left field line and Dore walked the game off in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI double to left center.
The Eagles finished game two on fire at the plate, tallying 14 hits in six innings as Raymond, McCarty, Dore and Gregoire all recorded two hit performances with Gregoire posting a 3-4 game.
Masterson finished the afternoon with 10 strikeouts over six innings, while both Gregoire and Dore recorded two double apiece in the win.
Husson will look to keep its momentum going on Wednesday when it hosts the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
