Box Score 2 WATERVILLE, Maine – The Husson University baseball team dropped both games, in their final non-conference doubleheader of the season, to the Colby College Mules on Saturday afternoon. With a 5-1 loss in game one and a 5-0 loss in game two; the Eagles are now 9-13 and the Mules are 17-6.
Game One: Colby 5, Husson 1 - 7 Innings
It was the Eagles who took the lead in the second inning. Graduate student Ethan Stoddard opened the inning with a triple then scored on a Mules error.
In the bottom of the third, the Mules took a lead with three runs, and added two more in the fifth for the victory.
Sophomore Matt Wallingford started the contest, pitching two solid innings including three strikeouts. Senior Alex Smith and junior Zain Fitzsimmons each made a relief appearance.
Game Two: Colby 7, Husson 1 - 9 Innings
The lone run for the Eagles came in the seventh inning as sophomore Tanner Evans hit a single to score pinch-runner freshman Joe Hamelin.
Sophomore Connor Abood kept the Mules scoreless for the first two innings as he went perfect including two strikeouts. Senior Brandon Brunell pitched a shutout third inning before the Mules bats got going in the fourth. Senior Chris Naylor, sophomore Ryne Rametta, junior Ryan Robb, and freshman Ryan Gomez each made in the appearance in the final four innings.
The baseball returns to Waterville on Tuesday when they take on NAC rivals Thomas College for a doubleheader with first pitch at H. Allen Ryan Field set for 1:00 p.m.
