LEWISTON, Maine – The Husson University baseball team made the trek to Leahey Field on Tuesday afternoon as they fell to the Bobcats of Bates College, 9-3, in non-conference action.
The Eagles (9-10) got on the board in the first at-bats of the game as graduate student Ethan Stoddard drove home junior Akira Warren via sacrifice fly.
Bates (11-9) took the lead and never looked back in the second inning thanks to three runs. The Eagles would tally a run in each of the third and fifth inning as they kept cutting the lead back to one, but a four-run sixth innings for the Bobcats blew the game wide open en route to the 9-3 victory.
Freshman Hunter Curtis hit his second home run of the season in the loss while Warren accounted for two walks.
Junior Jackson Thayer got the start on the mound while fellow junior Chris Naylor pitched the most innings with two. Junior Conner Wagstaff went 1.2 innings of no-hit ball and two strikeouts, meanwhile four freshmen of Max Lukeman, Sully Beers, Mason Cycenas-Heimer and Ben Phillips each made an appearance.
The baseball team returns home on Friday to host Colby College at the Winkin for a single nine-inning game with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m.
