AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Husson University split a doubleheader with Concordia College (Minn.) in RussMatt Central Florida Invitational baseball action at the Lake Myrtle Complex on Tuesday. The Cobbers defeated the Eagles, 8-1, in the opener but Husson prevailed, 5-1, to salvage the split.
In game one, Concordia College (2-2) raced out an 8-0 lead before freshman
Colin Marshall reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the seventh that scored junior
Austin Snow to spoil the Cobber's shutout.
Husson (3-3) junior starter Ryan Penny (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up four runs on six hits with two strikeouts in four innings of work. Junior

Ryan Gomez combined to allow four runs (three earned) off six hits with one punch-out in three innings of relief.
For Concordia, sophomore Alex Rudquist (1-0) picked up the win after tossing six shutout innings while allowing two hits and three walks with five strikeouts.
Graduate Student
Kobe Rogerson went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles in the setback for the Eagles, while sophomore
Ty Knowlton recorded the other hit for Husson in game one.
The Eagles plated the first runs of the game two in the top of second when they scored two runs off two hits and two hit batters. Graduate Student
Ethan Stoddard kicked off the inning with a single, then advanced to second when freshman
David York was hit by a pitch and moved up to third on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore
Tanner Evans. A fielder's choice by Snow allowed Stoddard to cross home plate with the game's first run. Snow then moved up to second after senior Brent Riffe was hit by a pitch and scored the Eagles second run of the inning on a single by freshman
Hunter Curtis.
Husson added a run in the top of the third off a sacrifice fly by York. The Cobbers responded in the bottom of the third when senior Justin Kloster scored on a RBI ground-out by sophomore Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe.
The green and gold tacked on an insurance run in the top sixth off an RBI single by Rogerson.
Junior
Jackson Thayer started the game for the Eagles, allowing one earned run off hits with a punch-out in 2.1 innings of work. Sophomore
Matt Wallingford (1-0) pitched the final 4.2 innings to pick up his first win on the mound. He allowed two hits, no runs with a walk and seven strikeouts.
Sophomore Dylan Erholtz (0-1) took the loss for Concordia after yielding four runs (three earned) off two hits in two innings.
H. Curtis was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the victory for the Eagles.
The Eagles return to the diamond tomorrow to take on North Atlantic Conference foe, Cazenovia College in a non-conference matchup at the Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
