BOSTON, Mass. - Husson University defeated Emerson College, 17-13, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest at Rotch Field on the campus of Emerson College on Tuesday afternoon.
Husson (4-3) opened the game with two goals in the first five minutes, as freshman
Serafina Melino and sophomore
Natalie Whitten scored, but Emerson closed the gap with a tally from graduate student Hannah Beck to make it a 2-1 game at the 9:41 mark.
Freshman Lela Martinez and sophomore
Maddy Benoit pushed the Eagle advantage back to three with unassisted markers at 7:56 and 6:02. The Eagles and Lions would then trade goals back-and-forth for the remaining minutes of the opening stanza that was capped off by sophomore Callie Krosin second of the period as the Eagles lead 6-4 going to the second quarter.

Averi Baker before Krosin responded with a solo four goal run to help Emerson cut the Eagle cushion to one, 9-8 with 7:54 left in first half. The green and gold entered the intermission with a 13-8 lead on the backs of four straight unanswered goals from senior
Sophia Gomez, Baker and two from Whitten.
Husson completed the third period with a 17-9 cushion after Baker, Gomez, Benoit and Martinez tacked on a goal apiece. Krosin scored the only Lions' third-quarter tally.
Four goals were scored in the fourth frame with all four being scored by the hosts, as Krosin netted three and senior Jules Rein had the other strike for the Lions to account for the 17-13 final.
Husson held the lead in shots (47-30) and shots on goal (40-21) in the victory. Emerson took the advantage in ground balls (30-20), draw controls (19-15), and caused turnovers (13-4) in the setback.
Sophomores
Emily Godfrey and
Emma Begin combined to make saves in the victory while Emerson's netminders freshman Ellie Spotts and senior Nina Khosla combine to turn away 23 shots in a losing effort.
Baker netted four goals with an assist and four draw controls for the Eagles. Whitten tallied four goals, an assist, and a ground ball. Benoit added three goals and a ground ball. Martinez contributed two goals and an assist with two ground balls, eight draw controls, and a caused turnovers. Gomez had a pair of goals with a ground ball and a draw control. Melino and Veits each added a goal.
Krosin scored ten times with two ground balls and a caused turnover. Rein, Beck and sophomore Grace Danehy tacked on a goal and an assist while freshman Ava Selby and freshman Vani Hanamirian each had an assist in the setback.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday when they host the University of Maine of Farmington to open up North Atlantic Conference action.
