BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's lacrosse team kicked off North Atlantic Conference action on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 15-2 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers on the turf of Boucher Field.
It took less than a minute for the Eagles to get on the board as freshman Averi Baker scored on the free-position attempt. Baker would go on to score a hat trick in the quarter including a women-down goal. Sophomore Maddy Benoit also scored in the quarter while sophomore Natalie Whitten dished out two assists as the Eagles led, 4-0, after 15 minutes.
The Beavers scored early in the second quarter to cut the lead down to three goals for the majority of the frame. Senior Devyn Veits allowed the Eagles to stretch the lead with a women-up free-position goal followed by a normal goal to make it 6-1 at halftime. Freshman Laela Martinez earned an assist on Veits' second goal.
The dominance continued in the third quarter with the Eagles tallying four goals to the Beavers' one. Whitten had two of the goals while Martinez and senior Sophia Gomez each added one.
The fourth quarter was highlighted by Whitten and Martinez as they each completed their hat tricks while freshman Serafina Melino recorded her first collegiate goal.
Sophomore Emma Begin earned her first start of the season and didn't disappoint as she stopped 10-of-12 shots while Benoit and Martinez each forced four turnovers. Baker, Martinez, and Whitten each tallied hat tricks in the victory.
The women's lacrosse team continue their four-game homestand next Saturday when they host Thomas College in a lacrosse doubleheader with the opening draw control expected at 3:30 p.m.
