QUINCY, Mass. — The Husson University men's lacrosse team put together a solid opening team performance of the season beating Eastern Nazarene College 12-4 on the road to kick off its spring break trip.
Husson (1-0) wasted little getting on the board in its season opener scoring at the 11:26 mark in the first quarter on freshman
Bryce DeRonda's first collegiate goal.
Junior
Danny Carter put the Eagles up 2-0 just under two minutes later with one of his game-high four goals on the evening. Carter tallied three-straight goals, one off an assist from DeRonda to open up a 4-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Senior
Griffin Madore extended the Eagles lead to 5-0 with a second quarter goal from Carter to give Husson a 5-0 edge at the break.
Husson added an early goal in the third quarter on DeRonda's second net-finder of the night, but Eastern Nazarene (0-1) got on the board with 9:35 remaining in the quarter to cut the deficit to 6-1.
However, the Eagles answered the Lions goal with three-straight scores, the first by sophomore
Sean Lyne from senior Matt Boyton, Lyne assisted on Husson's second goal to Carter for his fourth of the game and sophomore
Nathan Vibber tallied the third goal from Boynton.
Eastern Nazarene broke the Eagles scoring run with its second goal, but senior
Jacob Larochelle and Lyne recorded back-to-back scores to close the third quarter and being the fourth to increase the Eagles advantage to 11-2.
The Lions tallied two goals in the fourth quarter to pull within 12-4 of the Eagles, but the damage had been done early as Husson held on for win.
Freshman
Odin Burk impressed in his first collegiate start in net improving to 1-0 allowing just four goals and tallying eight saves.
Larochelle finished with a game-high 11 ground balls, while senior
Gus Eisenmann recorded a game-high five caused turnovers and scooped up six ground balls.
Husson finished with the evening with 50 shots and 32 shots on goal while converting on an impressive 17 of 19 clear attempts.
Additionally, the Eagles racked up 37 ground balls and forced 15 turnovers.
Husson returns to action on Saturday at noon when it takes on Virginia Wesleyan University in the second game of its six-game road trip.
