LA Plume, Pa. – The Husson University men's lacrosse team closed out their six-game, 2,500 mile road trip on Sunday morning with a 16-11 victory over Keystone College. With the victory, the Eagles are off to their best start to a season in program history with a 4-2 record while the Giants slip to 0-2.
The host opened the scoring in the first two minutes of the contest before the Eagles ended the first quarter scoring five unanswered goals. Senior Gunner McAllister scored a pair of the goals while junior Danny Carter, senior Ben Huynh, and sophomore Sean Lyne each tallied one.
The second quarter was more even as the two teams would exchange goals for the first ten minutes before the Eagles outscored the Giants, 2-1, in the final 2:30 to give the Eagles a 10-5 halftime lead. Sophomore Nathan Vibber began the scoring in the quarter for the Eagles while McAllister completed his hat trick and freshman Bryce DeRonda scored a pair of goals.
Only three goals were scored in the third quarter as the Giants scored the first goal of the quarter midway through. McAllister responded with his fourth of the day before the Giants responded less than a minute late as the Eagles had a four goal lead after 45 minutes.
The Giants began their comeback effort in the fourth scoring the first two goals, but the Eagles put that to bed by scoring five of the final seven goals as senior Matt Boynton was responsible for all five via three goals and two assists.
Freshman Odin Burk made his fifth appearance on the season and third start as he made 15 saves. Freshman Andrew Hurst and Huynh each caused three turnovers. Senior Jacob Larochelle won 13 face-offs and picked up eight ground balls.
McAllister led the offense with five goals and two assists while Boynton added three goals and four assists. Lyne also recorded a hat trick while DeRonda finished with two goals.
The men's lacrosse team will finally travel home after being on the road since Mar. 2nd. The teams next game is six days from now when they made the trip to Gorham, Maine to take on the University of Southern Maine with the opening face-off set for noon on Saturday.
