GORHAM, Maine – The Husson University men's lacrosse team fell in its first in-state matchup of the season with a 20-14 result at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
It was a rocky first half for the Eagles (4-3) as the Huskies (2-4) scored seven-straight goals to begin the contest. The Eagles would end the Huskies' run midway through the second quarter as they trailed 15-4 at halftime.
As the sun came out to begin the second half, so didn't the Eagles. The Eagles outscored the Huskies, 10-5, in the half, but USM was able to maintain a six-goal margin en route to the victory.
Graduate student Gunner McAllister and junior Danny Carter each paced the Eagles offense with three goals while fellow senior Matt Boynton as well as sophomores Sean Lyne and Nathan Vibber each had two goals apiece. Senior Jacob Larochelle recorded 19 face-off victories and picked up 11 ground balls, while freshman Cohen Trnka made 11 saves in goal.
It will be a week before the men's lacrosse team takes to the field again as they will make their first of two trips to New York when they open North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, Mar. 25th with a visit to Canton to take on the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton. The opening face-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
