BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team sailed to their fourth straight as they took care of North Atlantic Conference business with a 84-39 victory over the Hornets of Northern Vermont-Lyndon on Friday night at Newman Gym.
Graduate student Vanessa Duarte and junior Makaelyn Porter got the Eagles (17-6, 11-1 NAC) started on a 5-0 run as they never looked back. The Hornets (9-11, 5-5 NAC) would close the lead down to three before the Eagles ended the quarter on a 12-0 run for a 15 point first quarter lead. The second quarter was an even ten minutes of action as the Eagles were able to expand their lead to 19 at the halftime buzzer.
The Eagles came back from their halftime talk on a roll as they began the third quarter on a 26-6 run as they continued to stretch their lead in the second half en route to the 45 point victory.
Duarte paced the Eagles with 17 points and six rebounds while senior Bailey Donovan scored 15 points and piled up 14 rebounds. Junior Makaelyn Porter provided 12 points while junior Lauren Cook added 11 off the bench.
At halftime of tonight's game, Husson Athletics honored all of those who recieved all-conference honors during the fall season.
The women's basketball team will be right back at it tomorrow when they rematch with the Hornets for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off. Tomorrow, will be country western day at Newman Gym as the concession stand will be selling Husson's signature wings and party hats as well as bandanas will be available on a limited basis. Come dressed in jeans, flannels, and cowboy hats.
