BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team capped off their regular season with a 67-55 win over Maine Maritime Academy, handing the Mariners their first North Atlantic Conference loss of the season at Newman Gym on Saturday afternoon. Junior Bailey Donovan recorded 26 rebounds in the matchup which ties the Husson all-time record for most rebounds in a single game. The record had been set back in 1978 by Kris Hughes versus UMaine-Farmington.
Husson (19-6, 13-1 NAC) started the game on a 13-3 run lead by Junior Donovan, who put eight of her own up on the board early on. However the Mariners (18-6, 12-1 NAC) went on a small run of their own and made it a four point game after one with the Eagles still in front 15-11.
In the second quarter, the Mariners outscored the Eagles 15-11 to make the score even at 26 going into the half.
Sophomore Hannah Richards and Donovan paced the Eagles with eight points apiece.
Donovan continued to show her dominance in the third quarter dropping an additional 12 points to help the Eagles to a 51-44 lead over Maine Maritime going into the 4th quarter.
In the 4th, the Eagles were able to put enough distance between them and Maine Maritime to take a 67-55 victory.
Along with her 26 rebounds Donovan dropped an impressive 26 points to pace the Eagles. Richards followed with 15 points of her own and also tallied six assists.
This concludes the regular season for the women's basketball team and they will await the announcement from the North Atlantic Conference on Tuesday for their fate in the conference tournament that is set to begin on Friday.
