CASTINE, Maine – The Husson women's basketball team have advanced to their second straight North Atlantic Conference East Division championship game after a 87-61 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Friday night at Smith Gym on the campus of Maine Maritime Academy.

Junior Makaelyn Porter jumped out to a quick start for the Eagles (20-6) as she was responsible for the first four points of the contest with one basket and an assist to give the Eagles a 4-0 lead. UMPI (15-11) would battle back to tie the contest just once at four before the Eagles took command. Husson would lead by as much as nine, but only took a five point lead in the second quarter. In the first ten minutes of action, senior Bailey Donovan broke the program record for most rebounds in a season as she grabbed her 325th rebound.

The Eagles opened up the game with a 9-0 run to begin the second contest as they flew by their bird rivals to a 33-21 halftime lead.

Just like the first quarter, Porter was responsible for the first two Eagle baskets as she had her own 5-0 run as the Eagles continued to pile up the lead as the Eagles were up by as much as 26 in the second half en route to the victory

Donovan recorded 23 rebounds as well as 18 points while graduate student Vanessa Duarte also finished with 18 points. Porter finished with 13 points while fellow junior Trinity Montigny finished with 12 and seven rebounds.

For the fourth time in six seasons, the women's basketball team will square off with the Mariners of Maine Maritime Academy in the playoffs. Tomorrow the two teams will meet for the third time this season with a spot in the NAC Championship on the line. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
