BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's basketball received its first commitment for the 2024 recruiting class. Connor Heald, a 6'3 wing from Bradenton, Florida has committed to attend Husson in the Fall of 2024.

Heald plays for coach Vince Cherry at Cardinal Mooney High School in Saratoga, Florida. He is a three-year captain and as a junior averaged 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and one steal per game. The shooting guard hit on 45% from 3-point range, while shooting 53% overall.

Heald was named to the District 3A honorable mention team as a junior. He has twice been named HT Preps athlete of the week, once last year with a career high 39-point performance, which included a game-winning buzzer beater. In 2021, he was a part of the Cougars District Championship Team.

This summer, Heald played AAU for the Florida Sons, where he averaged 16.4 points, three rebounds and four assists per game. He opened his senior year with 16 points against IMG National and 21 points versus Victory Rock Prep.

"Connor is a complete wing player, with the ability to knock down 3-pointers and beat people off the dribble," head men's basketball coach Warren Caruso said. "Connor has a good overall game, positive energy and competes on every play. He loves the game of basketball."

Off the court, Heald has been on the honor roll all four years at Cardinal Mooney. He has spent over 100 hours providing services to his community, including organizing and leading a week-long basketball camp in Quest, Haiti.

The Eagles are off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 2018. Husson has won eight out of the last 14 NAC men's basketball tournaments. In August, Caruso was inducted into the Maine Basketball Hall of Fame.
