BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's soccer team got off to a quick start on senior day and led 3-0 after the first 23 minutes of play as it captured a 3-0 win over SUNY Poly on Sunday afternoon at Boucher Field.
Two senior honorees got the scoring started for Husson (8-4-1, 4-0 NAC) as senior Lindsey Russell one-touched a low cross from junior Mackenzie Lambert into the bottom right corner to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute.
Junior Sophia Mullins continued the scoring less than two minutes later as she took a corner kick from the far side that went untouched as it bounced through the box and rolled into the bottom corner as Husson would double its lead.
Junior Megan Buddemeyer concluded the first half scoring as she tallied her first goal of the season, as she placed her right-footed shot just between the goalkeepers head the crossbar off of an assist from Mullins.
The Eagles dominated the first half possession as they controlled the ball for 69% of the time, in addition to outshooting the Wildcats 15-1, including 8-0 in shots on goal.
Neither team managed to punch in a goal in the second half as Husson completed its second clean sheet in as many days.
The Eagles pounded 19 more shots out in the second half as they totaled 34 for the game, with 15 of the shots coming on goal.
Sophomore Madison Weigler stood between the posts for Husson and was not forced to make a save in the game.
The Eagles will hit the road this coming week as they will start their road trip with a journey to Farmington to take on the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday. Kick-off for this conference bout is set for 3:30 p.m.
