Women's swimming & diving picks up road victory over University of Saint Joseph

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Husson University women's swimming & diving team raced to a 162-92 dual meet victory over the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph on Sunday morning inside the Bruyette Natatorium.

With the victory over the Blue Jays, the Eagles have now won their last 15 dual meets, dating back to the 2021-22 season.

The Eagles opened with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay, behind a time of 2:07.43 from the relay of juniors Rachel Hand and Erin Madden, senior Kayla Payson and freshman Mia Winslow.

In the 1000-yard freestyle, the Eagles took two of the top three spots in the event. Sophomore Maggie Poulin earned the victory with a time of 13:23.66 while junior Kat Christensen finished third at 14:52.75. Graduate student Hannah Soutter (2:28.55), freshman Isabella Cost (2:33.12) and freshman Mackenzie Gray (2:34.20) all finished second, third, and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle. 

Husson finished the 50-yard backstroke with a one-two finish as junior Grace Rocheleau won the event with a 33.22 and Winslow placed second after hitting the wall with a 33.36.

Madden (36.92) picked up the victory in the 50-yard breaststroke while Payson (1:06.53) and Soutter (1:19.58) captured the Eagles' second one-two finish of the meet in the 100-yard butterfly.  

The Eagles continued their winning ways in the 50-yard freestyle event with Hand taking the event with a time of 27.12. Closing out the first half of events were sophomore Riley Mahoney and sophomore Lily Butler who collected Husson's third one-two finish of the meet, this time in the six-dive one-meter event. Mahoney scored 186.90 points and Butler had 151.15 points.

After the break, Hand won the 100-yard freestyle for the Eagles with a time of 58.67. Next, Winslow and Cost took home the green and gold's fourth one-two finish of the morning in the 100-yard backstroke and Madden captured the 100-yard breaststroke with a blistering time of 1:20.25 before Payson earned the victory in the 500-yard freestyle, breaking the six-minute mark with a 5:51.29.

Husson's final two victories of the meet came in the 200-yard individual medley when Hand hit the wall first with a mark of 2:24.59 and Mahoney tallied 144.05 points in the five-dive one-meter optionals for her second win of the meet. 

Next up, the Eagles will host Norwich University on Sunday, November 5 at 11 a.m.
