BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University men's soccer team have advanced to the North Atlantic Conference East Division championship game after securing a 4-3 victory over Thomas College at Boucher Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles (12-4-3) controlled the pace of play for the majority of the first half, but it wasn't until the 42nd minute when shots started to go into the goal. Junior Pedro Molina whipped in a laser of the cross into the six-yard box and senior Florian Gasser was there at the back post to hammer in his eighth goal of the season. Moments later, Molina found himself on the scoresheet with a header for a 2-0 Eagles lead. The Terriers (6-7-5) got a goal back with eight seconds left in the half via a free kick.
The Eagles didn't need much time to restore their two-goal lead as freshman Hugo Llopiz struck his second goal of the season moments into the second half.
The Terriers once again attempted a comeback with a goal in the 66th minute, but again the Eagles responded within a minute as junior Pablo Maroto scored via an indirect kick for a 4-2 lead.
The Terriers had one final chance to find their way back into the contest as junior Alexander Rechsteiner saved a penalty kick as the Terriers was only able to add a single goal en route to the 4-3 knockout victory.
Husson recorded 63% possession while having 19 corners kicks and sevon shots on goal. Rechsteiner made three saves in the victory.
