BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-0 decision against Maine Maritime Academy in a battle for first place in the North Atlantic Conference East Division Thursday evening.
Maine Maritime (13-3, 8-0 NAC) took an early lead over the Eagles in the first set, opening up a quick lead before Husson (4-12, 4-2 NAC) was able to battle back, but the Mariners rolled off a late-set run to earn a 25-14 win.
The second set would be all Mariners as they rolled to a 25-8 decision to take a 2-0 set lead.
The Eagles wouldn't go down without a fight as they traded points with MMA to begin the third set before the Mariners opened up a lead midway through the set. Husson battled back to pull within 23-17, but Maine Maritime capitalized on a couple of Husson miscues to earn a 25-17 set-three decision and seal the match.
Freshman
Janna Preskorn paced the Eagles with a team-high eight kills, while junior Alyvia McIntrye tallied eight assists and four digs.
Next up for the Eagles is a Saturday conference matchup against the University of Maine at Presque Isle at home as Husson will honor its seniors prior to its 1 p.m. first serve.
