BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women's basketball team moved to 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference play as they defeated SUNY Cobleskill 75-61 on Saturday afternoon at Newman Gymnasium.
The Eagles (9-4, 3-0 NAC) were in control for the majority of the opening 20 minutes as they held a lead as large as 14 and shot over 50% during the first half. Husson dished out 12 assists on 17 made field goals and forced the Fighting Tigers (8-7, 3-2 NAC) into 10 turnovers.
Graduate student Vanessa Duarte led the attack for the Eagles in the half as she poured in 10 points and recorded three assists. Junior Bailey Donovan tallied eight points and hauled in six rebounds.
The second half was more of the same for Husson as they held a double-figure lead for the entirety of the half, but never could quite completely put away Cobleskill, as they managed to outscore the Fighting Tigers just 33-30 in the second half.
Donovan finished as the scoring leader for the Eagles, as she put the final touches on yet another double-double, with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Duarte also scored in double-figures as she tallied 13, in addition to recording six assists.
Husson won the rebounding battle 44-36 and shot efficiently at the free throw line as they went 13-of-16 to go unblemished on the weekend.
Women's basketball will hit the road next weekend as they will travel to New York for a two-game trip. The Eagles first game of the trip will be at SUNY Poly, with tip-off set for 4 p.m. on Friday night.
