Utica, N.Y. – The Husson University women's basketball visited New York for the first time this season as they defeated the SUNY Poly Wildcats, 77-47, in North Atlantic Conference action at Campus Center Gym on Friday night.
It didn't take long for the Eagles (10-4, 4-0) to get on the board when New York native, Vanessa Duarte, swished a three on their opening shot. The Wildcats (5-9, 3-2 NAC) would respond with their own three before three straight jumpers by three different players would give the Eagles a 9-3 lead. Sophomore Sophia McVicar came off the bench to provide two three pointers to stretch the lead to 23-16 after the end of the first quarter.
Both teams would trade baskets for majority of the quarter until the Eagles would tally the final seven points of the quarter as they headed into the locker room with a 41-31 lead.
A 14-3 run to start the third quarter for the green and gold sees their lead continue to expand as the Eagles recorded the 30-point conference victory.
Junior Bailey Donovan recorded 16 points to lead the Eagles as well as nine rebounds. McVicar as well as junior Makaelyn Porter each had 12 points while graduate student Vanessa Duarte recorded 11.
The women's basketball team will travel west to take on another Wildcats team tomorrow as they will visit Cazenovia College with tip-off set for 1 p.m.
