CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The Husson University women's basketball team were on cruise control on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Cazenovia College, 99-49, at Upper Gym in North Atlantic Conference action.
The Eagles (10-5, 5-0 NAC) sailed to the conference victory after a 10-2 run to begin the contest and a 17-0 run to end the first quarter as the Eagles held a 29-10 lead after the first minutes of play. Junior Trinity Montigny and sophomore Sophia McVicar each had seven points in the opening quarter while the Eagles defense forced 11 turnovers.
The Wildcats (1-15, 0-6 NAC) began the second quarter on a 5-0 run but the Eagles' lead continued to grow as they was up by 31 at halftime.
The second half was much of the same for the Eagles as they came away with a 50-point victory.
Freshman Sydney Loring recorded a career-high for the Eagles as she scored a game-high 16 points with nine rbeounds. 13 active players recorded at least a basket as graduate student Vanessa Duarte and McVicar each recorded 13 points. Junior Lauren Cook chipped in 11 points for Husson while junior Bailey Donovan added 13 rebounds. Â
The women's basketball team will return to the state of Maine for their next contest as they will take on the University of Maine at Farmington for a home-and-home conference series starting on Friday at Dearborn Gym with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
