CASTINE, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team put an end to their three-game slide on Tuesday night with a 69-60 victory in North Atlantic Conference action over Maine Maritime Academy at Smith Gym.
Neither team scored for the first two minutes of the contest before junior Scott Lewis scored back-to-back baskets as the Eagles (7-11, 5-2 NAC) opened the contest on a 12-3 run. The Mariners (7-10, 3-5 NAC) would bring the score to within three before Lewis hit back-to-back threes to end the half with the Eagles in front, 29-22.
The lead would continue to grow the Eagles in the second half thanks in part to three different runs of at least six or more straight points. The Mariners would put together a 9-0 run at the end of the contest but the Eagles lead was too much en route to the NAC victory.
Junior Jeremy Moronta made his fourth start of the season and didn't disappoint with 18 points and nine rebounds while Lewis chipped in 13 points and nine rebounds. Off the bench, freshman DJ Woods scored 12 points.
The men's basketball team will begin a home-and-home series with the Terriers of Thomas College with the first contest taking place on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Larry Mahaney Gym.
