Women's swimming & diving finish undefeated dual season with wins over Plymouth State, Norwich

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Husson University women's swimming & diving team their undefeated (11-0) dual meet season today with wins over Plymouth State University (160-82) and Norwich University (141-138) to bring their dual meet win streak to 14.

Husson received a pair of individual victories from three different swimmers. Sophomore Erin Madden dominated the 200-yard individual medley by 12 seconds with a mark of 2:28.97 and later added a first-place effort in the 100-yard individual medley by three-plus seconds with a time of 1:09.98. Sophomore Rachel Hand was the fastest in a 1-2 sweep of the 50-yard backstroke for the Eagles with a time of 31.04, before winning the 200-yard backstroke with a new school record time of 2:19.75. Junior Kayla Payson out-stroked the field in the 200-yard butterfly with a new school record and winning time of 2:19.20 and also cruised to victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:33.11 to finish more than 24 seconds ahead of the field.

Payson was part of two winning relays for the Eagles, swimming the butterfly leg to open the meet in the 400-yard medley relay, preceded by senior Abbie Howe's backstroke and graduate student Ava Emery's breaststroke and before the freestyle anchor from Hand to combine on a time of 4:32.06. Payson led off the 200-yard freestyle relay, followed by Hand, Emery and Madden in a joint-effort time of 1:51.23. 

Emery earned the Eagles final swimming victory of the meet by winning the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:45.69.

Junior Shelby Peterson fueled a 1-2 finish for the Eagles on the one-meter board with a six-dive score of 193.05, while freshman Riley Mahoney was less than four points behind Peterson for second with a point total of 186.85.

The Eagles return to the pool on Saturday, February 4 when they defend their title at the two-day North Atlantic Conference Championship at 10:00 a.m. at the Aquatics Facility that is located in the Stephen M. Schneeweiss Athletic Complex on the campus of Cazenovia College.
