FARMINGTON, Maine – The Husson University men's basketball team suffered their first North Atlantic Conference loss of the season at the hands of the University of Maine at Farmington Beavers, 82-76, on Friday night at Dearborn Gym.
It was an even first ten minutes of the contest as both teams would trade baskets before the Eagles (7-10, 5-1 NAC) went on a 5-0 run to take a 18-14 lead and force the Beavers (10-7, 6-1 NAC) to call a timeout. Following the timeout, the Beavers finished the first half on a 20-2 run before junior Jeremy Moronta swished a three in the final minute as the Eagles trailed, 34-23, at halftime.
Both teams started the second half like the first before the Eagles begin the rally with a 11-2 run to bring the game within three, 49-46. The Beavers would put a stop to the rally with a 5-0 run of their own. In the final minutes of the contest, graduate student Justice Kendall scored five straight points as the Eagles cut the Beavers' lead to five with a minute to go, however, the comeback would stall there for the Eagles as the Beavers held on.
Moronta paced the Eagles, off the bench, with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Kendall had 17 and junior Scott Lewis had 15.
Both teams will have a short turnaround before rematching at Newman Gym tomorrow with tip-off set for 5:00 p.m.
