NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The Husson University football team dropped its season opener 35-14 to UMass-Dartmouth Saturday on the road.
Dartmouth (1-0) took a 7-0 lead with 4:29 remaining in the opening quarter and added to its advantage with another score to begin the second quarter.
Husson (0-1) got on the board with 2:11 remaining to pull the deficit to 14-7 when junior
Nic Visser connected with sophomore
Dom Wilson on a fade route that Wilson high pointed in the corner of the end zone and toe tapped for his first collegiate touchdown.
Wilson's grab capped off a 7-play 87-yard drive highlighted by a 53-yard catch from sophomore
Russ Walker that put the Eagles inside the Corsairs red zone.
Dartmouth carried a 14-7 edge into the break and added to its lead with back-to-back scores in the third quarter making the game 28-7 before Husson answered with its second score.
Sophomore
Elijah Garnett finished a 4-play 65-yard drive with a 36-yard rushing touchdown, the first of his collegiate career while finishing the afternoon with his first collegiate 100-yard game.
The Corsairs added a score late to extend their lead to 35-14 and hang on for the win.
Visser finished with 160-yards passing and one touchdown, while Garnett added 103 yards on the ground.
Senior Christian Walker finished with a career-high four catches and 64 yards while senior
Sean Savage added both a game and career-high 12 tackles.

Adam Bertrand tallied a career-high 11 stops and junior's
Tucker Buzzell and
Alex Brown finished with six tackles apiece.

Husson returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 10 when it hosts Plymouth State University for homecoming beginning at noon.
