Leavitt, McIntyre break game records in five-set loss to UNE

BANGOR, Maine — Husson University sophomore's Julia Leavitt and Alyvia McIntyre both broke program records in volleyball's five-set loss to the University of New England in non-conference action on Thursday.

UNE (2-6) took a 1-0 lead following a 25-15 set one victory on Thursday, but the Eagles would rebound in set two to tie the matchup 1-1 following 25-20 set two win.

Set three would be a back-and-forth battle with both teams trading points before Husson (2-7) took a 21-18 lead, but UNE rattled off a 7-1 run to pick up a 25-22 set win.

The Eagles evened the match 2-2 with a 25-19 set-four win to force a fifth and deciding set.

The deciding set of the evening proved to be a battle as both teams traded points back-and-forth before Husson took a 10-8 advantage. UNE rallied with a three-point stretch to take an 11-10 edge, but the Eagles rallied to take a 13-12 lead late.

However, the Nor'easter's used a 3-0 run to pick up the 15-13 set five win and the 3-2 match victory.

Leavitt finished with both a career and program record 30 kills finishing with a .351 hitting percentage for the game. Leavitt's 30 kills broke a 10-year record held by hall of fame member Hannah Olstad. Additionally, Leavitt also broke the record for points in a match with 34.5, which also stood for 10-year by Olstad.

McIntyre finished with a career and program record 50 assists, breaking her own record set back in 2021.

Senior Cheyenne Young finished with a 12-kill, 16-dig double-double while graduate student Amber Lemay added 14 digs.

Sophomore Alexa Beal tallied eight kills, while Leavitt added a team-high four service aces.

The Eagles return to action on Sunday when they battle Lesley University and New England College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
