BANGOR, Maine — Husson University sophomore's
Julia Leavitt and
Alyvia McIntyre both broke program records in volleyball's five-set loss to the University of New England in non-conference action on Thursday.
UNE (2-6) took a 1-0 lead following a 25-15 set one victory on Thursday, but the Eagles would rebound in set two to tie the matchup 1-1 following 25-20 set two win.
Set three would be a back-and-forth battle with both teams trading points before Husson (2-7) took a 21-18 lead, but UNE rattled off a 7-1 run to pick up a 25-22 set win.
The Eagles evened the match 2-2 with a 25-19 set-four win to force a fifth and deciding set.
The deciding set of the evening proved to be a battle as both teams traded points back-and-forth before Husson took a 10-8 advantage. UNE rallied with a three-point stretch to take an 11-10 edge, but the Eagles rallied to take a 13-12 lead late.
However, the Nor'easter's used a 3-0 run to pick up the 15-13 set five win and the 3-2 match victory.
Leavitt finished with both a career and program record 30 kills finishing with a .351 hitting percentage for the game. Leavitt's 30 kills broke a 10-year record held by hall of fame member Hannah Olstad. Additionally, Leavitt also broke the record for points in a match with 34.5, which also stood for 10-year by Olstad.
McIntyre finished with a career and program record 50 assists, breaking her own record set back in 2021.
Senior
Cheyenne Young finished with a 12-kill, 16-dig double-double while graduate student
Amber Lemay added 14 digs.
Sophomore
Alexa Beal tallied eight kills, while Leavitt added a team-high four service aces.
The Eagles return to action on Sunday when they battle Lesley University and New England College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
