Box Score 2 BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University baseball team returned to winning ways on Thursday afternoon with a North Atlantic Conference sweep over Thomas College at the Harold Alfond Diamond. The Eagles squeezed out a, 3-0, victory in game one while easing by the Terriers in game two, 13-3.
The Eagles (11-15, 3-1 NAC) didn't waste time scoring the first run of the contest in the first inning as senior Ethan Stoddard singled to left field in the first inning to score junior Joshua Scott.
The lead would remain true until the fifth inning when the Eagles added two insurance runs. Junior Joshua Scott singled to right field to score sophomore Akira Warren then a Terriers error made it 3-0 Husson.
The Terriers (10-19, 5-4 NAC) had their chance to change the outcome of game one as they had the bases loaded with one out but senior Jake Gregoire came into the game and got the inning-ending double play as the Eagles won game one, 3-0.
The senior southpaw Cam Graham started the contest on the mound as he went five-plus shutout innings as he allowed three hit and struck out five. Gregoire recorded a five-out save to preserve the 3-0 victory.
The Terriers held a lead twice in the early stages of the second game but the Eagles rallied with seven runs in the third inning as they cruised away with the victory.
Seven different batters for the Eagles recorded two hits as the Eagles combined for 17 hits. Freshman Tanner Evans drove in three runs while Warren drove in a pair of runs and Scott scored three times.
Sophomore Harrison Lendrum went seven innings as he allowed three runs on six hits and struck out eight. Sophomore Jackson Thayer and freshman Matt Wallingford came in from the bullpen and each pitched a perfect inning to clinch the sweep.
The Eagles will entertain the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls for a four game weekend conference set starting on Saturday with a doubleheader. The games will be at the Harold Alfond Diamond but the Eagles will be the away team for the weekend set. First pitch on Saturday is set for 2:00 p.m.
