Men's lacrosse beats MCLA on senior day

Box Score

BANGOR, Maine — The Husson University men's lacrosse team overcame an early three goal deficit on Saturday to pick up a 16-10 North Atlantic Conference victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts on senior day.

MCLA (2-9, 1-5 NAC) jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage on Saturday scoring three goals in the first 2:25 seconds before senior Jaden Wells got the Eagles on the board with his first of four goals on the afternoon.

Husson (5-10, 2-4 NAC) rolled off four unanswered goals to end the opening quarter with Wells getting the scoring run started. Senior Darryn Bailey pulled the Eagles within 3-2 with his first of three goals with an assist from sophomore Danny Carter

Bailey would tied the game 3-3 with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter off an assist by Wells, while Wells would find fellow senior Gunner McAllister for the first of his five goals to give Husson a 4-3 edge.

The Eagles extended their scoring run to eight unanswered goals with a 4-0 run to open the second quarter. McAllister scored on two of those four goals while Wells and Carter each tallied a net finder.

The Trailblazers ended the Eagles 8-0 run with a goal just before half, but Husson controlled an 8-4 edge heading in the break.

Carter and Wells extended Husson's lead to 10-4 with back-to-back goals in the third quarter before MCLA answered with a goal of its own to make the deficit 10-5.

Husson would outscore the Trailblazers 3-1 over the final seven minutes, using goals by Bailey, McAllister and Wells to carry a 13-6 lead heading into the final quarter.

MCLA would outscore Husson 4-2 over the final 15 minutes, but the damage had been done early as the Eagles held on for the 16-10 conference victory.

McAllister finished with a team-high five goals, while Wells added four goals and two assists.

Carter finished with two goals and a game-high four assists matching freshman Sean Lyne's game-high four assists.

Prior to the game, Husson honored its 2022 senior class as Bryan Wagg, McAllister, Bailey, Wells, Shawn Ragaglia and Roman Dennis were honored.

Husson returns to action on Saturday when it battles Northern Vermont University-Lyndon on the road beginning at 2 p.m.
