Box Score DAVENPORT, Fla. - The Husson University baseball team opened up the season with a 14-9 victory over the Anna Maria AMCATS on Friday afternoon at NorthEast Regional Park.
The AMCATS (1-1) scored the first run of the contest before the Eagles (1-0) responded with five straight runs. In the third inning, sophomore Jackson Curtis singled down the left field line to score senior Kobe Rogerson then freshman Joshua Scott recorded his first collegiate RBI as he doubled to score Curtis. In the fourth inning, bases were loaded with two outs for Curtis and he cleared the bases with a double for a 5-1 Husson advantage.
Anna Maria scored a second run in the bottom half of the fourth before the Eagles tacked on three more runs. Freshman Tanner Evans also recorded his first collegiate RBI as a single brought home senior Ethan Stoddard then senior Brett Riffe scored via an AMCATS error as it was 7-2 Husson after five innings. In the sixth, Stoddard's base running allowed Scott to make it 8-2 Husson.
The AMCATS, in the bottom of the sixth, made it an 8-6 game but the Eagles put the game to bed with six runs in the final three innings en route to the 14-9 victory.
Senior Cam Graham got the start on the mound and recorded the victory after pitching five-plus innings while allowing five runs on five hits. Junior Harrison Lendrum pitched just under three innings of relief work as he allowed four runs then sophomore Ryan Robb shut the door down in the ninth inning.
On deck for the Eagles is their first twinbill of the season when they take on the Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth with first pitch of game one scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Sanford Memorial Stadium in Florida.
