Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University baseball team returned to winning ways on Wednesday afternoon after picking up a 8-2 victory versus Bates College at the Winkin Sports Complex.
The Bobcats (2-12) opened the scoring in the second inning as Ben Gesmondi homered to right center field. They looked to stretch their lead in the next inning with the bases loaded and nobody out but the Eagles' defense ended that threat. Back-to-back strikeouts by sophomore Chris Naylor then a groundout to freshman Tyler Michaud kept Bates with the lone run.
The Eagles (5-10) were able to use that momentum on offense as they outscored the Bobcats, 7-1, through the remainder of the game. The Eagles took the lead in the bottom half of the second as sophomore Jackson Curtis and senior Ethan Stoddard both drove in runs via sacrifice flies.
Bates scored their final run of the contest in the next half inning before the Eagles would score three in the fifth inning. With runners on second and third; junior Joshua Scott ripped a triple into center field to score both runners then scored on a RBI groundout by Stoddard.
In the sixth inning, senior Tyler Parke destroyed the baseball over the center field wall for a two run homer as the Eagles extended their lead to 7-2.
Senior Kobe Rogerson capped off the scoring in the eighth with a single as sophomore Ryan Robb closed the game out in the ninth for the 8-2 victory.
Naylor made his fourth start of the season and went three innings as he earned a no decision. Senior Jake Gregoire picked up the victory after pitching three scoreless innings. Sophomore Harrison Lendrum and Robb combined for a scoreless final three innings.
The baseball team returns to the diamond on Saturday as they host the University of Maine at Presque Isle for a non-conference doubleheader at the Winkin Sports Complex with first pitch of game one scheduled for noon time.
