Men's lacrosse's comeback falls short in NAC loss to SUNY Cobleskill

Box Score

COBLESKILL, N.Y. — Despite a strong fourth quarter run on Friday, the Husson University men's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought 12-10 North Atlantic Conference decision to SUNY Cobleskill on the road.

Husson (3-8, 0-2 NAC) struck first in Friday's conference clash taking a 1-0 advantage in the first quarter on senior Gunner McAllister's man-up goal.

SUNY Cobleskill (1-2, 1-1 NAC) answered McAllister's goal with three unanswered scores to take a slight 3-1 edge after the opening quarter.

McAllister pulled the Eagles back within 3-2 with his second goal of the day at the 12:56 mark off an assist from senior Jaden Wells and sophomore Danny Carter evened the contest at three goals apiece with his first of four goals on the day with 4:50 remaining in the first half.

However, Cobleskill managed to score three goals over the remaining two minutes to lead 6-3 at the break.

Junior Ben Huynh pulled Husson back within two goals of the Tigers, but Cobleskill rallied with two goals of its own to push its advantage to 8-4 with 5:14 remaining in the third quarter.

McAllister wouldn't let the Eagles go down without a fight scoring his third of four goals on the evening to make the deficit 8-5 and Wells scored off an assist from McAllister to inch closer to the Tigers.

Cobleskill would add one more goal in the final minutes of the third quarter to edge Husson 9-6 heading into the deciding quarter, benefitting from two early fourth quarter goals to increase its deficit to 10-6.

Carter tallied back-to-back-to-back net finders over a span of just two and a half minutes, one off an assist from McAllister and another from Wells to cut into the Tigers lead 11-9.

Cobleskill added its final goal with 6:53 remaining to push its lead back to 12-9 before McAllister found the back of the net for his final goal of the day at 12-10, but the Tigers managed to come away with the decision.

McAllister finished the evening with one of his best all-around performances on the season recording four goals, two assists on 20 shot attempts while scooping up an impressive 12 ground balls.

Carter also added four goals, while Wells finished with one goal and two assists.

Husson will take a day off on Saturday, taking the opportunity to attend Duke versus Syracuse in division I men's lacrosse action, before closing out its weekend with a noon matchup against SUNY Delhi played in Oneonta, New York.
