Box Score BANGOR, Maine - The Husson University men's lacrosse team lost in a non-conference game to the University of Southern Maine by a score of 11-9 on Wednesday evening at Boucher Field.
Husson (0-2) and Southern Maine (1-0) played to a scoreless first nine minutes of play before junior Ben Huynh caught a pass from senior Darryn Bailey and rifled it past the keeper to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. Husson would punch home one more goal in the first period, as senior Roman Dennis would put in his first goal of the young season.
The Huskies would cut the deficit in half as junior Tucker Nussinow would score with 10:23 left in the second period. The Eagles would respond quickly after the USM goal, as they would rattle off three goals within one minute and ten seconds of each other, as freshman Sean Lyne and senior Jaden Wells would tally their first goals of the season, while junior Matthew Boynton recorded his second goal of the young campaign. Lyne would score his second goal of the game as he put the Eagles up 6-1 before the Huskies would get one goal back, as junior Aidan Mitchell would score the final goal of the half.
Husson would extend its lead in the third period, as sophomore Danny Carter would score while the Eagles were a man-up, in addition to Bailey recording a full-strength goal to make the game 8-2. USM would get those two goals back as juniors Nick James and Jacob Long would both tally their first goals of the season. Senior Gunner McAllister would put an end to the Huskies's run of goals, as he put home his fifth goal of the season to make it 9-4 going into the final period.
USM would outscore Husson 7-0 during the final period to earn the comeback victory.
In net for Husson, senior Bryan Wagg recorded 12 saves on 23 shots.
The Eagles return to the field on Saturday, as they begin their spring break trip with seven away games in eight days starting with Virginia Wesleyan University. Face-off for the contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
