Box Score BREVARD, N.C. — The Husson University men's lacrosse team put together a complete team victory on Friday beating Brevard College 16-8 on the road.
Husson (3-5) wasted no time getting on the board to begin Friday's battle as senior Jacob Laurachelle won the opening faceoff and found sophomore Danny Carter for the first goal just six seconds into the matchup.
Brevard (0-3) answered Carter's score at the 12:23 mark to even the game at 1-1, but the Eagles rolled off a 4-0 run to close out the opening quarter with a 5-1 advantage.
Junior Ben Huynh started Husson's run with an unassisted goal while senior Jaden Wells added two goals over the final minutes, one off an assist from freshman Sean Lyne and senior Roman Dennis tallied the remaining net finder.
Senior Gunner McAllister put the Eagles up 7-1 with back-to-back goals in the second quarter before the Tornados ended Husson's 6-0 run with a score to pull with 7-2 heading into the break.
Brevard made it 7-3 with the first goal of the third quarter, but Lyne answered to extend the Eagles advantage back to 8-3. Both teams traded goals over the final minutes of the third, with Husson carrying a 10-5 edge heading into the deciding quarter.
Wells added his fourth goal of the game to put the Eagles up 11-5 to begin the fourth, but three-straight goals saw Husson's lead dwindle to 11-8 with 7:47 remaining.
However, the Eagles would not let their lead slip away this time as McAllister took over scoring back-to-back goals again one on a man-up opportunity to push the advantage back to 13-8 with 5:11 remaining.
Freshman Nathan Vibber extended that lead to 14-8 just over a minute later with his lone goal, while Wells tallied his game-high fifth score with 1:42 on the clock and Carter added an insurance goal with 1:21 remaining as Husson came away with the 16-8 win.
Senior Bryan Wagg played will in net for Husson, turning away 13 of 21 shot on goal attempts as the Eagles forced 25 turnovers and converted on an impressive 20 of 24 clear attempts.
Additionally, the Eagles put up a 53-35 shot advantage and collected 43 ground balls on the day.
Husson concludes its spring trip on Saturday with a 2 p.m. meeting with Methodist University.
