Box Score DANVILLE, Va. — Despite strong games by senior's Jacob Larochelle and Gunner McAllister the Husson University men's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a strong fourth quarter Averett Univeristy run on Thursday falling 11-5 on the road.
Averett (3-2) managed to take a 1-0 edge on Thursday midway through the first quarter, but senior Roman Dennis tied the game 1-1 with just over two minutes remaining while McAllister notched the first of his three goals on the afternoon 30 seconds later to give Husson (2-5) a 2-1 advantage after one.
The Cougars tied things at 2-2 just under five minutes into the second quarter as McAllister would put the Eagles back up 3-2 only seconds later, but Averett found the back of the net twice over the final minutes of the first half to carry a 4-3 lead in to the break.
McAllister would give his team another change in the first minute of the third quarter, tying the game 4-4 on a man-up opportunity, however the Cougars regained the lead 5-4 with 5:25 remaining.
Junior Ben Huynh netted the equalizing goal with 1:35 on the clock in the third, but Averett benefitted from a 6-0 run to close out the third and end the final period to preserve its 11-5 win.
McAllister turned in one of his best performances of the season in the loss, landing six of nine shot attempts on frame for three goals while scooping up a game-high seven ground balls and forcing three turnovers.
Senior Larochelle turned in another dominate performance on Thursday, winning 13-19 faceoffs to go along with matching McAllister's game-high seven ground balls.
Husson finished 14-20 on faceoff attempts in the matchup while converting on 14 of 19 clear attempts.
The Eagles will make the trip to Brevard, North Carolina on Friday for a 1 p.m. game against Brevard College.
